Setting publication dates

Correctly setting the release dates for your music release is essential to ensure its synchronized global distribution.

At UMW Recordings Inc., the “Release > Schedule” module allows you to set up three basic types of dates:

1. Original Release Date

What is it?
It's the date the recording was first released, whether in physical, digital, or independent format (even if not through UMW).

When should you set it up?

  • When the material has already been previously released (reissues, remasters, migrations).

  • When it comes to back catalogs or re-releases.

Valid example:
If the song was originally released in 2019 on another platform, that is the Original Release Date , even if it is being distributed for the first time now with UMW.

⚠️ Important: Don't confuse this date with the date of your new digital release. It doesn't affect listings, but it does affect the work's publication history.

2. Official digital release date

What is it?
It's the date you want your content to be available on platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.).

When should you set it up?

  • In every new release or re-release.

  • If you want to schedule a future date (ideal for pre-save campaigns or digital marketing).

Requirements:

  • It is recommended to schedule at least 7 business days in advance to allow for processing and store validation.

  • It must be written in MMM DD, YYYY format (example: Jul 20, 2025 ).

3. Geographic Availability

What is it?
It's the setting that allows you to limit availability by country or region if you wish (geo-blocking).

When to use it?

  • If your release has territorial exclusivity (by contract or marketing).

  • If you wish to skip certain territories.

Options:

  • Yes: Activate country filter (you must manually select the allowed territories).

  • No: Your content will be available globally by default.
