1. What is release metadata and why is it important?
Metadata is all the information that accompanies your music: titles, artist names, credits, codes, genres, dates, etc.
It's key because:
They determine how your content is displayed in stores.
They affect how users find your music.
They are used to calculate payments and allocate royalties.
Incomplete or incorrect metadata can cause rejections, profile errors, or payment problems.
2. How should I correctly write the titles of my songs and releases?
We recommend:
Use standard uppercase and lowercase letters (not all in uppercase).
Avoid emojis, excessive symbols, or promotional messages in the title.
Do not include information such as “(Prod. by…)” or links in the title; that information should be in the credits or notes.
A clear and clean title improves the presentation and helps to pass the review faster.
3. What genre and subgenre should I choose if my music blends several styles?
Choose the genre that best represents the core of your sound. You can:
Use the main genre as a general category (e.g., “Pop”, “Latin Urban”, “Electronic”).
Choose subgenres that are close to the specific style (trap, house, reggaeton, indie pop, etc.).
If you're unsure, think about how your audience would describe your music and which playlists it would fit best into.
4. What happens if I make a mistake when assigning roles (main, feature, remixer, etc.)?
Incorrectly assigned roles can cause:
Confusion regarding store credit.
That an artist is not linked to the release.
Problems claiming artist profiles or statistics.
If you detect an error, contact us at the UPC and explain what role each participant should have in order to correct the metadata.
5. Can I add or remove credits after release (e.g., add a feature)?
It depends on the magnitude of the change:
Minor adjustments (name correction, order) can usually be updated.
Adding a new lead artist or major feature may require withdrawing and relaunching the release, as it implies a virtually new work on a commercial level.
Always consult us with the UPC and the exact modification you need.
